Purpose
Healthy ecosystems play an essential role in supporting sustainable food production. At ABP, our aim is to nurture nature across our sites by creating spaces that protect and enhance local habitats. Restoring these areas not only supports wildlife, but also contributes to the resilience of the landscapes in which we operate.
Action
Across ABP Ireland locations, we have established a variety of dedicated biodiversity areas and corridors that reflect local ecological needs. These include mini forests planted with native trees and shrubs, wildflower gardens designed to attract pollinators, marsh habitats that support wetland species, bee hotels, and butterfly towers to encourage vital insect populations.
These naturally regenerative spaces are allowed to evolve with minimal intervention. Together, these habitats create a network of thriving natural areas that support a wide range of species and ecological processes.
Impact
These biodiversity initiatives will help increase pollinator numbers, boost local plant diversity and create natural flood mitigation. In addition, the increased presence of natural pest controllers will benefit surrounding agricultural land.
Through this work, ABP is strengthening its nature-positive action and helping biodiversity flourish within and around our sites.
